The Steering Committee on the Review of the Civil Service Code, Regulations and Rules, headed by the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) was recently on the validation exercise of the modified draft Civil Service Code, Regulations and Rules in Kailahun, Kenema and Bo districts, respectively. In his keynote address, the Director General of the Human Resource Management Office, Mr. Ansu Samuel Tucker told his colleague civil servants that they are on the validation of the modified draft civil service code, following the outcome of the nationwide consultative meetings on the review of the code, which were conducted last year, with a view to soliciting their comments and additional inputs to the final document. He said the objective is to produce a civil service code, regulations and rules that will contain the views and aspirations of civil servants nationwide, unlike the current civil service code which was prepared by a few civil servants sited in Freetown at the time. The representative of the Secretary to Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service, Mr. Patrick Sama said the review of the Civil Service Code comes as part of a wider public sector reform program launched by the Government of Sierra Leone as incorporated under sub cluster 4.7 in the Medium Term National Development Program (2019--2023), and as a requirement contained in the current Civil Service Code that suggests review of the code after every five years but the review did not occur due to the outbreaks of Ebola and Covid in the country. The Acting Director of Performance Management in HRMO, Mr. Chernor Mansaray, who presented the modified draft civil service code throughout the exercise said the draft review civil service code contained changes modification in the current civil service code, as well as emerging issues which aims at establishing a new civil service code that will be effective and efficient in service delivery. Civil servants in attendance in the respective districts expressed profound gratitude and appreciation to the steering committee on the review of the civil service code for their good work and hoped to see the approval of a new code shortly.
